Medical Test Overuse
March 25th, 2010Today, when a person is sick or bothered by an injury and goes to their doctor, they almost always expect that the doctor will order some kind of specialized test. In many cases, this assumption is correct. Now more than ever, it seems that it is difficult to have a medical issue diagnosed without undergoing a series of tests, some of which are quite invasive or could have painful side effects. Before ordering such tests, physicians have the responsibility to inform their patients of the reasons a test is needed and the potential risks it may carry.
